Customer Review: A refreshing new direction from Henckels!
Summary: 5 Stars
Not so much a "cutting board" as a "cut board," this breath-taking piece showcases the seemingly endless reserves of Henckels's creativity. I believe Gattingsburg was correct when he cautioned us in the February ArtForum to "expect greatness from a certain up-and-comer (not to name names, but he monograms his luggage 'J.A.H.')."However, collectors should be warned: An authentic Henckels will feature not only a brand, but also a signed certificate sealed by the Brussels Institute of Hardwood Blocks and Slabs (BIHBaS). I feel sympathy towards the lady with the plastic seal, but the error was her own. When making an investment of this size, it is perfectly acceptable--nay, it is matter of course--to request an outside appraisal while funds are held in escrow. At least this is how we at Christie's East handle all Henckels sales.
Description of J.A. Henckels 10-Slot Hardwood Knife Storage Block
Dull cutlery is dangerous cutlery. One of the easiest ways to maintain sharp edges on your fine cutlery is to store the knives in a block. An added benefit is that your knives are conveniently ready and waiting for the next time you need to carve a roast or julienne some veggies.This hardwood block stores up to eight kitchen knives, a sharpening steel, and kitchen scissors within reach on the counter while protecting knife edges from the nicking they would suffer in a drawer. The block is slanted to provide easy access to knife handles and has rubber feet to protect the counter surface. The natural-finish block displays Henckels's famous logo beneath the scissors slot in the front. --Fred Brack
